Message from the owners of BOA

These are truly unprecedented times but as you are already browsing our web site, we whole-heartedly welcome you ‘to get on with life’ and share the joy of exploring Baja and the wonderful Sea of Cortes. Perhaps you have paddled with BOA before or you are just about to join our ‘family’ of Baja Adventurers. Either way, we wish to impress on you that we have made vigilant adherence to best practices for sanitation.

It’s our intention to be running all our confirmed trips throughout the season October 2021 – May 2022 continuing our sanitaton measures while practicing the new norm for kayaking and exploring in Baja.

While local government and the international health community continue to revise best practices so we will immediately respond with our safety measures. In short, we wish to assure you that BOA will be taking extreme precautions staying up-to-date on safety mandates while pursuing our goal to provide exceptional kayak and multi-sport adventures. We have a highly trained team and after 27 years of doing things “right” we will always put your safety as our number 1 priority.

We will continue to review the travel information and any constraints that could impact your ability to join us in Baja. In the primary interest of protecting the health and safety of our guests and employees, and to abide by federal, state, and local directives regarding travel to Mexico, as a small family-owned business we will diligently ensure the well being of the BOA community.

Finally, do take confidence in knowing that we are in constant communication with other travel professionals and the health authorities here in Baja discussing and scrutinizing the best possible move towards safe practices playing and working within the constraints of our new reality.

Health and safety

We are constantly working in our protocols to ensure that our trips are COVID-19 safe. In that regard we will ensure that all of our staff are fully vaccinated and in the case of the exceptional individuals (freelance personnel) who have not yet had access to the vaccination program, we will enforce that they present a negative PCR test within 72 hrs before participating on the trip. Likewise all clients joining a BOA trip need to present a full vaccination certificate or a negatve PCR test taken within 72 hours before the beginning of the trip.

We all know that the great outdoors is a relatively safe environment for us to socialize together with new distancing measures in place to further reduce the risk of contamination. However, we will be particularly vigilant to potential cases of COVID-19. If your guides perceive that you or someone else in the group is displaying symptoms of carrying the virus, BOA reserves the right to remove that participant from the expedition. Likewise you will not be able to join if we have reason to believe that you have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19 within the 14 days prior to your scheduled trip or, if you develop 2 or more covid-19 like symptoms (a fever, cough, shortness of breath, etc) during the 14 days prior to your scheduled trip. By the same token we will remove any scheduled staff member if we have reason to believe that they have been in close contact with a person known to have COVID-19 within the 14 days prior to a scheduled trip or, if they develop 2 or more covid-19 like symptoms (a fever, cough, shortness of breath, etc.) during the 14 days prior to a scheduled trip.

In addition to the above, if a staff member or guest develops symptoms that suggest any possibility of COVID-19, we will isolate that person, take precautionary sanitary measures and consider the possibility of evacuating them. We will also have masks available for anyone that shows potential symptoms.

BOA gear is sanitized between each trip. Special attention is given to wiping snorkels and masks though we encourage people to bring their own equipment where possible. Vans and motorboats carefully wiped on a daily basis and/or between each group pick up and drop off. The wiping down surfaces at our kayak center and in the BOA office and toilet facilities. Distancing measures in place while gearing up for trip.

During our first camp meeting we will reinforce the safety points that we can all contribute towards to provide a safer trip. These include:

• The awareness and use of hand sanitizer stationed at strategic points at each camp.
• Cleaning work surfaces on each camp set up (daily).
• Increased food preparation guidelines including use of face mask while handling food.
• Reinforcing the 3-step phase of dish washing: hot water wash, hot water rinse and final cold-water chlorine rinse.
  Where possible, both on and off the water, respecting the 2m social distance rule to minimize the risk of cross contamination.
• Washing hands before and after each meal and bathroom break.

All rented sleeping bags will continue to be machine washed and sun-dried after each trip.

We will continue to adapt our health rules as new government health mandates come into effect.

COVID-19 ADDENDUM to BOA cancellation policy

Above and beyond our existing trip cancellation policy (refer to point 15 on our planning page) BOA have made an additional term to factor in the situation of your trip(s) should it be cancelled or postponed due to a full government travel ban relating specifically to the on-going impact of the Coronavirus COVID-19.

In such instance there is no minimum advance notice and your full trip fee may be transferred free of charge to any future BOA trip. Your new trip must be taken within 12 months of the initial proposed trip that is being cancelled. Alternatively you can opt to receive a refund for a maximum of 50% of your trip fee.

In such uncertain times we wish to reiterate the importance of seeking comprehensive travel insurance for all our guests.
